Village Nawan Pind Sardars of District Gurdaspur of Punjab have been selected for this prestigious award. This village has taken an exemplary step by preserving Punjab’s culture and heritage and developing heritage tourism. This village has registered its name among the 35 villages selected from across India for this award. A total of 750 villages from 31 states/UTs applied for the competition for the recognition of the best village in the tourism sector of India.

Bhandari said that the selection of these villages for the Best Tourism Village Recognition 2023 was based on various scales of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) including cultural and natural resources, economic , apart from social and environmental sustainability, tourism development and value chain integration included other aspects.

He further said that the villagers have taken care of the ancestral heritage mansions with the coordination and guidance of the Tourism Department of Punjab and through continuous efforts have developed them as famous tourist destinations where today tourists not only from different states of India but also from abroad. come Among these heritage havelis of British rule, one is named ‘Da Kothi’ and the other is named ‘Pipal Haveli’.

He said that under the able leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Anmol Gagan Mann, the Department of Tourism is making sincere efforts to make Punjab a leading state in terms of tourism.
