Gurmeet Singh Khudian said that it is a matter of great pride as Punjab has secured the third position in the country in the Blue Ravi Buffalo Pedigree Selection Scheme. Along with this, the state has secured the fifth position in the progeny testing scheme of Murrah breed buffaloes and the 6th position in the progeny testing scheme of Sahiwal cows.
He said that Punjab has already achieved the target of Murah Progeny Testing Project, which was to be completed in the year 2024. He said that the main objective of these schemes was to produce high-quality cows from these three breeds of buffaloes and cows with high milk yield.
Reiterating the commitment of the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann regarding the welfare of dairy farmers, Gurmeet Singh Khudian said that the state government has so far administered a total of 25 lakhs of Goat Pox vaccine to cows in the state to prevent the spread of lumpy skin. Doses have been given.
The cabinet minister said that vaccinations are being done under the state level campaign to protect the cattle from Galghotu disease and a special campaign will be launched soon for the prevention of foot and mouth disease in the state.
He further informed that the state has also procured 75,000 injections of sexed semen to produce heifers/kids so as to increase the income of the farmers besides reducing the expenditure on maintenance of males. These vaccines have already been made available at affordable rates in all the veterinary hospitals/dispensaries of the state with the objective of helping the farmers to deal with the problem of stray animals in future.
