Inspector General of Police Headquarters Sukhchain Singh Gill while addressing the press conference said that the police teams have recovered 1073.44 kg of heroin from across the state by setting up checkpoints on sensitive roads in addition to conducting cordon and search operations in drug-affected areas. Apart from this, Punjab Police teams recovered 147.5 kg of heroin from Gujarat and Maharashtra ports, taking the total recovery of heroin to 1220.94 kg in just one year.
IGP He said that apart from recovering a large consignment of heroin, the police recovered 797.14 kg of opium, 902.13 kg of ganja, 375.47 quintal of poppy and 65.49 lakh pills/capsules/injections/vials from across the state. The police have also recovered drug money worth Rs 12.33 crore from the possession of the arrested drug traffickers during the last one year.
He said that during the last year, the Punjab Police has seized properties worth Rs 26.72 crore from 66 drug smugglers. He said that 13 properties worth Rs 2.34 crores in Barnala district, 9 properties worth Rs 1.72 crores in Fazilka district and 6 properties worth Rs 1.13 crores in Malerkotla district have been seized from the said drug traffickers.
Giving weekly updates, IGP In the last one week, police registered 205 FIRs including 32 commercial cases and arrested 297 drug traffickers/suppliers and recovered 5.52 kg heroin, 11.34 kg opium, 4.02 kg ganja, 5.22 quintal poppy, 56107 Apart from tablets/capsules/injections/pharma opioids, drug money of Rs.4.33 lakh has been recovered.

He said that with 10 more fugitives arrested in NDPS cases in the last one week, the total number of arrests after the special drive launched on July 5, 2022 to arrest POs/fugitives has now reached 964. Apart from this, IGP Sukhchain Singh Gill said that after the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann came to power, the law and order situation in the state has also improved a lot.
Official data from July 5, 2022 to July 16, 2023 shows that the Punjab Police seized 31 rifles, 209 revolvers/pistols, 5 Tiffin Improvised Explosive Devices (IIDs), 6.78 kg of RDX and other explosives. , arrested 143 terrorists/extremists and busted 18 terrorist modules after recovering 10 hand grenades, one sleeve of disposed rocket launcher, 51 drones, and one loaded rocket propelled grenade.
Similarly, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) โโconstituted on April 6, 2022 has so far arrested 688 gangsters/criminals, busted 5 gangsters/criminals, busted 208 modules and recovered 667 arms and ammunition from their possession. 157 vehicles used in criminal activities have been recovered.
