Chairs, grains, batteries, musical instruments, fans, inverters, wires, coins and even files disappear from government schools in Punjab. Now the summer holidays have started. Schools will be closed for about a month. In such a situation, there is more fear of theft in government schools. That is why, as the students of Ferozepur’s Rukna Mungla Government Primary School said goodbye to school for the summer on May 31, so did the fans and utensils of the school.
Regarding this, school in-charge Surinder Kaur said, “Nothing is safe from thieves,” adding that fans and utensils have been sent to the sarpanch’s house for safekeeping till the school reopens after the summer vacation.
Government schools across Punjab, especially primary schools – from the border districts of Ferozepur and Fazilka to central Ludhiana, Moga and even Hoshiarpur in the Doaba belt have been plagued by incidents of theft.
According to the data collected by the Ferozepur District Education Office (DEO), 123 incidents of theft have occurred in the government schools of the district during the last one and a half years.
