Punjab government took an important decision to promote sports

To keep the youth of Punjab away from drugs, the Punjab government has decided to promote sports in the state. The sports department has started work to prepare the players from an early age to show their strength in big sports fields. One thousand sports nurseries will be opened in Punjab.

In the first phase, 250 sports nurseries will be opened in Punjab, out of which 205 nurseries will be established at rural level while 45 will be in urban areas. Before starting the first phase of nurseries, the department has decided to start 12 sports nurseries in the pilot phase.

According to the sports department official, they will be started in Mohali, Sangrur, Bathinda, Barnala, Muktsar, Faridkot, Tarn Taran, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur and Jalandhar in the pilot phase. Which sport the sports nursery will be, will be decided keeping in mind the sports played in the respective district and the people's preference. The cost of playground, track, sports equipment, food, training, coach and appointment of nursery superintendent will be Rs 60 lakh to Rs 80 lakh. A budget of Rs 52 crore is expected to be spent on one thousand sports nurseries.

Punjab Sports Department Deputy Director Parminder Singh says that the main objective of the Punjab government is to keep the children of Punjab fit. Children's fitness can be maintained only through sports.

Deputy Director Parminder Singh says that a sports nursery will be opened at the same place, where the government will get more than 4 acres of land to start the nursery. Keeping in mind the sports related to that village or area, a sports nursery will be opened by taking land from the Panchayat of the concerned district.
