There is anger among the farmers when the promises are not fulfilled. The farmers of Punjab are preparing to open a front against the government to protest against the government. They have called a meeting on July 3 to formulate a strategy. 30 to 32 farmer unions are likely to attend this meeting.

The farmers’ leaders say that the Punjab government had encouraged the farmers to plant mung beans in their fields. The government will purchase mongoose by paying a support price of Rs 7275, but when the farmers reached the markets with the crop, the government reneged on its promise. Farmers had to sell groundnut in the markets at half the rate of Rs 5900 per quintal.
