The Punjab government has started a new initiative for the improvement of schools. Now the children of government schools will also come and go to school by buses. While in Mohali city only the children of School of Eminence will get this facility. Only 9th and 11th class children have been included in it. After this, this facility will be extended to every school.

This facility will cost a total of 1200 rupees. In this, 80 percent will be spent by the government and the remaining 20 percent will have to be spent by the children. Earlier, such facilities were available only in private schools, now people will see buses of government schools also plying within the city.

A school-level committee, headed by the principal, was earlier formed for the bus service. After this the DEO worked at the district level and finally the DPI committee took the decision at the state level. After this every bus service has now been given the green flag. At present, 5 schools in the district are availing the bus service, which will include School of Eminence in Derabassi.

The bus will be equipped with safety features keeping in mind the safety of children. Cameras are installed both inside and outside the bus. A GPS system has also been installed in the bus, which will help in tracking the route the bus is plying.

Apart from this, the bus will also have a female helper to take care of the children. This bus facility for children was supposed to start in the month of October itself as the tender of the bus went out on time. But after that only the meeting process took time. Due to this, it was handed over to schools in the month of November.
