The new ambassador of Portugal to Cabo Verde, Paulo Lourenço, has advised all Cabo Verdeans not to apply for the Schengen visa of Portugal through intermediaries.
The ambassador clarified that the scheduling of a visa appointment is free for all citizens of the country and stressed that the appointment can be made through the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
Moreover, ambassador Lourenço said that the application process can be carried out by applicants themselves, suggesting that they do not need the help of intermediaries.
“The scheduling processes are done from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, and in relation to that, the only thing we would like to tell people is that this scheduling is free. In relation to this matter, there should not be any other type of involvement or intermediation,” ambassador Lourenço stated.
Ambassador Lourenço did not deny that intermediaries are able to help applicants facing difficulties with their applications but warned of other effects.
However, according to him, those asking for help from intermediaries “create a vicious circle” as it makes it more difficult for people applying for themselves to be able to make an appointment.
For this reason, ambassador Lourenço required everyone to take care of their application and save money, as intermediary services are expensive.
“With a little more patience, they will also be able to understand that, for every intermediation they seek, they are probably creating an effect of making individual scheduling more difficult, which should be the general rule because it’s a free service. Then what is not free is the visa itself,” ambassador Lourenço added.
Since Cabo Verde has not reached any agreement with Portugal regarding visa-free travel, all of its citizens are required to obtain a Portugal visa to be permitted to enter the country.
A Schengen visa is a short-term visa which permits all of its holders to travel to Schengen Area member states for stays of up to 90 days for tourism and business purposes.
Cabo Verdeans planning to reach Portugal for tourism purposes must apply for a Portugal Tourist Visa.
Those applying for this visa type must submit the completed Portuguese visa application formtwo passport photos, their valid passport, round-trip flight itinerary, proof of having secured accommodation in Portugaland proof of sufficient financial means.
In addition, applicants must also submit a cover letter, proof of civil status, and proof of having purchased Portugal Travel Health Insurance.
