Delhi: The Prime Minister of the country Narendra Modi has made a big statement regarding the issue of water. Prime Minister Modi made a big statement during a rally in Rajasthan and said that many states of India are fighting each other over river water. They are not ready to give even a drop of water to each other. Fighting is going on in many states. But I gave water to Rajasthan while being the CM of Gujarat. We gave Narmada water to Rajasthan within an hour.

Although Modi did not name any state, at present the issue of SYL is heated in Punjab and Haryana and such a statement of Modi is being considered as a shame for Punjab. Punjab is adamant not to give even a drop of water to Haryana.

Haryana was separated from Punjab on November 1, 1966, but at that time water distribution was not done. A few years later the Center allocated 3.5 MAF water to Haryana. It was also decided to build the SYL canal to bring this water.

Haryana had completed its part of the canal many years back, but Punjab has yet to construct its part. This issue has arisen many times in the Supreme Court and each time the two states were asked to resolve the dispute quickly.
