PM Modi on Prakash Singh Badal: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to former Chief Minister of Punjab and Shiromani Akali Dal leader Parkash Singh Badal and said that I have lost the personality of a father, Badal will always be alive in our hearts. 95-year-old Badal died on Tuesday at Fortis Hospital in Mohali. Prime Minister Modi also visited Shiromani Akali Dal office in Chandigarh on Wednesday and paid his respects.

Expressing grief over the death of the Akali leader, PM Modi said in a blog on his website that on the evening of April 25, when I came to know about the death of Sardar Parkash Singh Badal, my heart was filled with great sorrow. With his death, I have lost a father figure, who guided him for decades. He gave a new shape to the politics of India and Punjab through his works. It can be called unique. Badal Sahib was a great leader who was widely recognized. But more importantly, he was a man with a big heart. He said that it is easy to be a great leader but it takes a lot more to be a person with a big heart. People from across Punjab say that Badal sahab’s words were different. Describing Parkash Singh Badal as a big farmer leader, the Prime Minister wrote that farmers are in his heart.

Recalling the story of the 90s, Prime Minister Modi wrote that at that time Badal was the Chief Minister of Punjab and I was an ordinary BJP worker, but according to his nature he did not allow any discrimination. He was a lively personality full of warmth as well as intelligence. The PM wrote that after taking oath as Chief Minister, Badal Sahab told me that we will go to Amritsar and pay obeisance. Langar will be served along with it. He was in his guest house room after reaching Amritsar, but when he came to know about it, he came to my room and started taking my luggage. When asked why they were doing this, their response was, come with me. He took me to his room and said you will stay here. Even after my refusal she refused and I had to stay there. He himself stayed in another room. I will always appreciate his gesture towards a very simple worker like me.
