Philippines Ferry Fire: A case of 31 people getting burnt due to a fire in a boat in the Philippines has come to light. According to the information, about 261 people were on board the boat, out of which 230 people have been rescued. Local officials gave this information on Thursday.

Disaster official Nixon Alonzo said the boat Lady Mary Joy 3 on Mindanao island was heading from Zaboanga town to Jolo island in Sulu province on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the boat suddenly caught fire. After the incident, many passengers on the boat jumped into the water to save their lives.

Rescuers, including the Philippine Coast Guard and fishermen, rescued 195 passengers and 35 crew members. Basilan Governor Jim Suliman said the initial search of the boat had turned up 18 bodies. Later the death toll increased.

There is no information about the cause of the fire

It is not clear how the fire started. The Basilan governor said the survivors were taken to Zamboanga and Basilan, where they are receiving medical treatment.

Images released by the Coast Guard show a burning ship being sprayed with water. Nearby, some coast guards were seen in small boats pulling out people who had jumped into the water.
