Pakistani ex-PM Imran Khan sentenced to 10 years in jail, Court's decision in Cipher case

The court has sentenced Pakistan's former Prime Minister and PTI chief Imran Khan to 10 years in the Sifar case. Along with Imran, his associate and former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has also been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Imran Khan is currently imprisoned in Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail and the verdict of this case was pronounced there. This decision of the special court is being considered as a big blow for Imran as he wanted to contest the general elections in Pakistan. It is believed that after both the leaders were sentenced to 10 years each, the way to contest the election has been closed.

Although they still have avenues of appeal to the higher court, given the way their tussle with the army is going, it is believed that they will not get much relief from the courts. What is a cipher case?
This case of Sifar against Imran and Shah Mehmood Qureshi is related to national security. Imran Khan is accused of personal use of top secret information. After being ousted from power, Imran had alleged that America was behind his ouster.

For this, Imran said that Pakistan Embassy in Washington had sent him a cable (tape or secret information). Imran Khan made the controversial diplomatic talks public for his own political gain. It was called 'cipher'.

Let us tell you that general elections are to be held in Pakistan on February 8. Earlier, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has returned home. He left Pakistan in 2019 and started living in Britain. Recently, the High Court granted bail to Nawaz, after which he returned.
