On the alert of the Punjab police regarding the 'Saka Nilatara anniversary', flag marches were held in the districts.

Operation Bluestar Anniversary: In view of the Saka Nila Tara anniversary – also known as Ghallughara Week, the Punjab Police has beefed up security across the state to ensure that the week is observed in a peaceful manner.

On Thursday, police teams led by CPJ/SSPJ also took out flag marches in sensitive and riot-prone areas of their respective districts as a confidence-building measure among the general public. 110 flag marches covering 192 sensitive areas were taken out in all 28 police districts.

The exercise was carried out on the directives of Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav as part of the drive to make Punjab a safe state as per Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s dream.

Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla said that the CPJs/SSPs have been instructed to conduct flag marches in sensitive areas of their respective districts. Police teams detained 368 suspects for questioning during the flag march.

Punjab Police is committed to ensuring foolproof security arrangements in the state.

He said that the purpose of this special exercise is to prepare the police personnel to deal with any unpleasant situation as well as to increase the confidence of the general public. Arpit Shukla said, “Punjab Police will ensure a peaceful celebration of Saka Nila Tara anniversary, for which adequate security arrangements have been made across the state.”

The Special DGP said that the deployment of police teams at important places including bus stands, railway stations and other sensitive places has also been increased to prevent the infiltration of anti-social elements.

It may be noted that CPJ/SSPJ have also been instructed to increase vigilance at police checkpoints in their respective jurisdictions and check all suspicious vehicles entering/exiting.
