Now say bye-bye to slow internet, the government has fixed the minimum speed of broadband

Broadband Download Speed: This is the era of the Internet. Everything depends on the internet. If the internet speed is low then many works stop. Although now you will get good internet speed. In fact, the central government has changed the very definition of broadband connectivity. Now telecom companies will have to provide at least 2 Mbps speed for broadband. At present, the minimum download speed was fixed at 512 Kbps.

85 crore customers of broadband

According to the notification issued on 25 January, there are about 85 crore customers of broadband in India. Of these, 825 million use mobile broadband. Not only this, 25 million people have landline broadband. Now companies will have to increase the speed of broadband.

TRAI had recommended to increase the speed

TRAI had recommended increasing the speed in 2013 and 2021. On the recommendations of TRAI, the Department of Telecom has set a minimum speed of 2 Mbps for companies. According to Speedtest Global Index data, India’s internet speed has increased in December 2022. Still it is at 79th rank globally. Mobile download speed in the country has increased from 18.26 Mbps to 25.29 Mbps.

Share of companies in broadband market

According to the latest data, in November 2022, the top companies had a 98.4% share in the broadband market in the country. These companies include Reliance Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea and BSNL. Broadband India Forum President TV Ramachandran said the decision would benefit rural and semi-urban consumers.
