Continuous efforts are being made by the Punjab government to raise the standard of living of women. The Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is running various schemes for the empowerment, safety and welfare of women in the state.

Minister of Social Security and Women and Child Development Dr. Baljit Kaur said that under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, eligible beneficiary women (breastfeeding mothers) will be given financial assistance in one installment of Rs.6000/- after the birth of the second child girl. Under this scheme, financial assistance of Rs.5000/- is given to pregnant women and lactating mothers for the birth of their first child.

He said that providing financial assistance of Rs 6000/- after the birth of a girl child will improve the sex ratio at birth of girls, will also help to stop the practice of sex selection before birth, breastfeeding mothers. will also improve the health of the child and help in improving the nutritional fitness of the child.

The Cabinet Minister said that under this scheme the benefit of Rs.6,000/- will be directly transferred to the bank/post office accounts of the beneficiaries. Forms are filled by Anganwadi workers in all Anganwadi Centers of Punjab to avail this benefit.

To get this benefit, every beneficiary must have an Aadhaar card and the Aadhaar card must be linked to the bank account. The minister further informed that the beneficiaries can submit their application by registering themselves on the online portal (https://pmmvy.nic.in/) sitting at home. Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur ordered the officials to implement this plan in a transparent and efficient manner.
