The 31st meeting of North Zonal Council started in Amritsar. In this meeting under the leadership of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann gave a warm welcome to all the leaders. Chief Ministers of Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh Administrator and Lieutenant Governors of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Delhi are also participating in this meeting.

On the Sutlej-Yamuna Link Canal (SYL) issue, Bhagwant Mann said that it is a very sensitive issue. We do not have surplus water to give to any state. Law and order in the state may deteriorate due to this matter. It will also affect Haryana and Rajasthan. The available water in the present situation should be evaluated. There is no point in building a canal.

Issue of Shanan Power Project

The issue of Shanan Power Project was also raised in the council meeting. Chief Minister Mann opposed Himachal’s demand. He said that there should be no change in the nature of Shanan Power Project. He also said that the decision to give the power project to Himachal is wrong. Punjab expanded the project between 1975 and 1982, increasing the capacity from 48 MW to 110 MW. Any decision to the contrary will be unfair to the people of Punjab.

The issue of RDF

In the meeting, CM Mann also raised the issue of pending RDF. The CM said that this issue is closest to my heart. Mann said that the farmers of Punjab are under the burden of debt, but the Center is continuously ignoring the issue of farmers. The central government is treating the farmers in a disrespectful way.

Mann said that Punjab has produced more than its capacity, but the unfortunate thing is that Punjab and its farmers are not getting their due. In lieu of procurement of grain for FCI, the expenses of Punjab are being reimbursed deliberately. Mann said that the deficit of the state is increasing every year.

Only Punjab has the right to Chandigarh – CM Hon

The issue of Chandigarh dispute was also raised in the meeting. On which CM Mann said that Chandigarh was built by destroying the villages of Punjab. Therefore, Chandigarh and Punjab have the first right. The long-standing demand of Punjab should be fulfilled by restoring it as the capital of Punjab.

Panjab University Punjab Heritage – Hon

In the meeting, the Chief Minister of Haryana raised the issue of getting his colleges recognized by the Punjab University, which was dismissed outright by CM Mann. He said that PU is the heritage of Punjab only. Haryana did not take any recognition for 50 years, how come it is needed now. The CM said that his appeal is that this issue should not be taken up either today or in the future. It should be deleted from the agenda of this meeting itself.

Obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib

Before the meeting started, Himachal Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar, Jammu and Kashmir Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha and Ladakh Lt. Governor B. Mishra arrived in Amritsar to attend the meeting. . All of them reached Sri Harmandir Sahib in the morning to offer obeisance. Meanwhile, these guests were honored by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee at the information center of Sri Harmandir Sahib.
