In the coming times, you may not need a separate set-top box to watch some free TV channels, as the Indian government is planning to end this hassle. Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur on Monday informed that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will introduce inbuilt satellite tuners in televisions to eliminate the use of set-top boxes to watch free-to-air channels. With this, you will not have to install a separate set-top box of any DTH provider to watch free-to-air TV channels on TV.

Mint’s According, Anurag Thakur told on Monday that about 200 channels are provided free of cost to the viewers. Bringing in television sets with built-in satellite tuners will ensure that users are able to access these FTA television and radio channels without a set-top box.

He told that for this, users will only need to install a small antenna at a suitable place like the roof or side wall of their house. Addressing the media, Anurag Thakur said that the number of viewers has increased due to the increase in the number of general entertainment channels on Doordarshan’s free dish.

Responding to a question, he reportedly said, “I have made a fresh start in my department. If your television has a built-in satellite tuner, there will be no need to have a separate set-top box. A remote click on Can have access to over 200 channels.”

He also informed that a decision is yet to be taken in this matter.
