Chandigarh: Illegal mining in Punjab will be monitored from the sky. For this, the government will take the service of drones. The pilot project will start from Rupnagar. This instruction was given by Mining Minister Gurmeet Khair to the officials on Tuesday, while the officials were also instructed to start 67 commercial and 13 public mining sites at the earliest. Sand will be provided to people at Rs 5.50 per cubic foot at both the places.
An important meeting of the Mining Department was held at Punjab Bhavan on Tuesday to prevent illegal mining. Difficulties in stopping illegal mining were discussed. In the meeting, the teams explained their problems in detail. After this, the minister gave instructions to use drones for surveillance work. It was decided in the meeting that all approvals for starting 40 clusters with 67 commercial wells will be completed by monsoon season so that they can be commissioned by September 20.
Out of the 40 clusters auctioned, technical bids have been received so far for 32 clusters, while financial bids are yet to be submitted. So far 60 public wells have been dedicated to the people by the government. Along with this, preparations are underway to start 13 new public wells soon. Instructions are given to explore new pits. Pending environmental approval will also be taken soon. Finance Department Secretary Gurkirat Kirpal Singh, Director DPS Kharbanda, Chief Engineer HS Mahindiratta and all the district officials were present in the meeting.
Hi-tech cameras are now being installed at all check posts to prevent illegal mining. These cameras will be of high resolution. Will be able to note the number of the vehicle at night. Also, as soon as a vehicle passes through it, its entire record will be recorded there. It is expected to be of considerable benefit to the department. A private bank is using CSR fund on this project.
Police are quite strict about illegal mining. 716 cases of illegal mining have been registered in four months. Cases have been registered from Mohali to Tarn Taran and Pathankot. Apart from this, a large number of Poklans and vehicles have also been seized. Remember that the case of illegal mining reached the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
