The incident took place when the woman was going to Amritsar with her family to pay obeisance and after stopping at a canal on the way, she went to pour coconuts. Gurpreet Kaur has died in the accident while the search for her one and a half year old child Gurnaj is still going on.

Balkar Singh, a relative of the deceased, said that her family is a resident of Sivan area of ​​Junaidpur police station in Haryana. All the family members left home for Amritsar this morning. On reaching the Bhakra shore, Gurpreet Kaur said that she was going to throw coconuts in the canal.

While pouring coconuts, Gurpreet Kaur's foot slipped and she fell into the canal along with her child. At the time of the incident, Gurpreet Kaur's family and husband were sitting in the vehicle, but by the time they reached the spot, both had drowned. The body of Gurpreet Kaur has been recovered and the search for the child continues with the help of divers.
