Rajkot: In the Morbi bridge incident case of Gujarat, the district and sessions court has rejected the interim bail plea of ​​Jaysukh Patel, MD of Oreva Group. Last year, 135 people lost their lives in the Morbi pool accident.

After the court rejected the bail plea, Jaisukh Patel’s lawyer Haresh N Mehta said that, Jaisukh Patel will remain in judicial custody till the bail order. Suo Moto petition in Gujarat High Court ordered compensation for the injured person and affected families.

Advocate Haresh N Mehta further submitted that, accused Jaisukh Patel has sought interim bail for arranging the compensation as he is part of the Board of Members and arranging the compensation would be a collective effort and decision by the Board. There was no bad intention behind this call.

It may be mentioned that during the hearing on Saturday, the court of Principal District and Sessions Judge PC Joshi had reserved its decision on Patel’s interim bail plea for March 7, following protests by the state government and the families of the victims. At the same time, Dilip Agechania, on behalf of the families of the victims, told the court that Patel should not be released at this stage as he can tamper with the evidence and influence the witnesses.

135 people died in the accident

Significantly, the suspension bridge located on the Machchu river in Morbi town of the state had collapsed on October 30 last year. 135 people died and 56 others were injured in this accident. This bridge was built during the British rule. Police have arrested 10 people, including Patel, in connection with the accident and all the accused are currently lodged in Morbi sub-jail.

At the same time, Jaisukh Patel had requested to be released on bail for 15-20 days to complete the necessary formalities for compensation to the families of the dead and 56 injured in the accident involving the bridge.
