In an effort to reduce pollution caused by transport, the Maharashtra government has now decided to buy or rent only electric vehicles. State Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray said that earlier the date was fixed for 1 April, which has now been done from the beginning of this year. Now only electric vehicles will be bought or rented for the use of state government and urban bodies.

Aaditya Thackeray tweeted, “In keeping with our commitment to promote clean mobility and citizens, the Government of Maharashtra has decided to buy or rent only Electric Vehicles from the beginning of this year.” Before this, he tried to control pollution. electric vehicles and to encourage the use of vehicles that do not spread pollution, the state’s Electric Vehicle policy was announced.

The policy includes raising the share of electric vehicles in public transportation in Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Aurangabad and Nashik to 25 percent and converting 15 percent of the total Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) buses to electric by 2025.

However, the installation of electric kits in old diesel cars will be allowed only after the testing agency declares the diesel car engine fit. The engine can be replaced with an electric system only after getting the approval.
