Google to Start eSIM Transfer Feature for Android Smartphones

Global tech company Google has announced some new features for Android. Google has also informed about bringing eSIM transfer support by the end of this year at the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, โ€‹โ€‹Spain. This will make it easier for users to transfer their mobile plan to a new device.

Built on GSMA’s global standard, this feature will eliminate the need to change the physical SIM to transfer the mobile plan to a new phone. Google has blog post reported that the new eSIM transfer feature for Android devices will be rolled out by the end of this year. Deutsche Telekom will be the first telecom company to get this support. Google has also announced new Android capabilities with its partner brands such as Samsung, OnePlus, Oppo and Xiaomi. Chinese smartphone company Xiaomi’s new smartphones Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro have been launched with support for digital car keys feature. OPPO Find N2 Flip and OnePlus 11 have Nearby Share feature.

The company has also announced Google Keep, a single note widget on the home screen. Apart from this, with Wear OS, users will be able to create notes with just one tap on the watch. in India Google The decision of the Competition Commission of India (CCI) last year against Android devices may have an impact. The decision will require Google to revise its software licensing agreements with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) like Samsung and Xiaomi in the country.

According to a leaked report, device manufacturers may continue to release Android devices such as smartphones, tablets under the global MADA (Mobile Application Distribution License) in the country or opt for the new IMADA license. Having said that, IMADA is a new custom-tailored agreement in India wherein OEMs can choose to opt out of the pre-installation of 11 Google apps that come with every new Android phone. Under IMADA, there will be no need to keep the search bar, Google apps folder on the homescreen of the device. Apart from this, users will also be able to choose their default search engine after setting up the phone.
