The cabinet minister said that the government of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has set a target to vaccinate 25 lakh cows with 25 lakh doses of Goat Pox vaccine in Punjab for early prevention of cows from lumpy skin disease. .

He said that last year there was a lot of loss of livestock due to this disease which spread in Punjab through other states. The state government has already made plans so that this disease could not damage agriculture, livestock and related occupations in the state again.

He said that as per the decision taken during the meeting of the group of ministers constituted for the prevention of lumpy skin disease and drawing up the future strategy, the state level mega vaccination campaign is being started from February 15, 2023. He said that during this vaccination campaign, which will last for about 75 days, free vaccination will be given to the entire cattle of the state till April 30, 2023.

The Animal Husbandry Minister said that 25 lakh feeds have been procured from the Telangana government “State Veterinary Biological and Research Institute, Hyderabad” and stored scientifically at the Punjab Veterinary Vaccine Institute, Ludhiana, from where these feeds are distributed to different districts. being sent He said that while transporting the vaccine from Telangana, special care has been taken to maintain the cold chain for the quality of the vaccine.

Arrangements made for mega vaccination campaign
Meanwhile, Principal Secretary of Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy Development Department Vikas Pratap said that a Joint Director level officer is being appointed as a nodal officer at the directorate to effectively implement the vaccination campaign, which will monitor the daily progress. According to the instructions issued earlier by the department, vaccination will be done by forming 773 teams based on veterinary officers, veterinary inspectors, veterinary pharmacists and rank employees posted in animal hospitals and animal dispensaries of Punjab and special attention will be paid to the cold chain during vaccination.

In view of the vaccination campaign, the recruitment process of 418 veterinary officers is being completed rapidly by the department, under which about 200 veterinary officers will be posted this month by giving appointment letters so that these officers can also do their part in this state-level campaign of vaccination. can contribute

It may be mentioned that the lumpy skin disease caused by viruses had taken hold of the state’s wheat on a large scale in July 2022. About 1.75 lakh cows were affected in all the districts of the state and about 18 thousand cows died during this period.
