Ludhiana Gas Leak Case: The district administration has submitted the magisterial inquiry report of the gas accident at Giaspur in Ludhiana to the Punjab government on Wednesday. In the preliminary investigation, the cause of death of 11 people has been given to gases like carbon monoxide and hydrogen sulphide.
Scientists of the Central Scientific Instruments Organization (CSIO) of Chandigarh are investigating why this gas has formed in such a large quantity in the sewage. DC Surabhi Malik has submitted a two-page preliminary report to the state’s Finance Commissioner, Revenue.
In this report, the factories were given a clean chit. The report said that the accident was not caused by any chemical gas in the factory. So far no such fact has come to light that industrial waste has caused gas formation in sewage.
The sewage could not be properly ventilated and the accident occurred due to sudden leakage of carbon monoxide and hydrogen sulphide formed there. The report also states that the sewage system in the area where the incident took place is not good.
According to the rules, chimneys for ventilation were to be constructed at various points within a radius of about one kilometer while piping the sewage system, which was not constructed anywhere in this area. Due to this, poisonous gas continued to accumulate in the sewage. This gas suddenly came out from the bathrooms of the houses.
The administration needs to do the sewage work soon
The report has called for a review of various sewerage projects under a special campaign in the concerned area. According to the report, the local administration should start work quickly on which area sewerage needs to be repaired or repaired and when and at what time.
Along with this, after this accident, the state government had announced to give 2 lakh rupees to the heirs of the deceased. On this, the NGT ordered a compensation of 20 lakhs each. It has been said in the report that now 18-18 lakh more will be given on the instructions of NGT.
