Laljit Singh Bhullar with Nitin Gadkari: Punjab Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar demanded from the Central Government to change the method of scrapping the 15-year-old government vehicles of the state and to give 50 percent advance central assistance to the state.

Participating in a meeting of transport ministers of all states and Union Territories in New Delhi, Laljit Singh Bhullar assured Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari that if there is a change in the method of scrapping 15-year-old government vehicles, then Punjab Electric vehicles will be preferred as a substitute for scrap vehicles.

Meanwhile, Bhullar said that the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Maan has approved the electric vehicle policy in the state and the state government is giving priority to moving forward in the direction of environment-friendly initiatives. During the meeting, Transport Minister Bhullar also demanded to increase the speed limit on national highways.

Regarding the demands of the state, Nitin Gadkari said that the Punjab government has written a letter to the Center in this regard so that further action can be taken regarding these demands.

Laljit Singh Bhullar said that during the meeting, various policy issues including review of traffic rules, establishment of vehicle fitness stations, financial support for e-buses and streamlining of issuance of driving licenses were also discussed. He said that smooth transport policies will be implemented in Punjab very soon in collaboration with the Centre.
