Chandigarh: Bhullath MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira has moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He claimed that he was illegally arrested in an FIR registered in March 2015 and should be released from the case. is

According to Dainik Bhaskar’s news, the case was registered under the NDPS apart from the Arms Act. Khaira said that he has lived a life of dignity. He has served the public all his life, but he is being harassed for his clearly indirect, politically motivated, malicious, inconsistent and repugnant views.

Khaira has referred to the action of the Supreme Court in the High Court. He says that in 2017, the Supreme Court summoned him as an additional accused and stayed the trial court’s action against him.

He was arrested by the ED in 2021 on charges of money laundering related to a 2015 drug case. He got bail in 2022. In February 2023, the apex court quashed the summons order against him in the drugs case. After this, on September 28, the Punjab Police arrested him from his residence in Chandigarh.

Meanwhile, the matter reached Justice Vikas Bahl for hearing, but he refused the hearing and sent the case back to the Chief Justice. Justice Bahl said that as a lawyer he had appeared in a case in which MLA Khaira was responsible.
