Chandigarh: In the alleged ‘objectionable’ video case of Punjab Cabinet Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, the National Scheduled Castes Commission has issued a notice to the Punjab government. This is the third notice issued by the National Scheduled Castes Commission to the Punjab Government. The state government has issued a notice and asked for a report to take action.
The SC Commission has asked the Punjab government to submit the action report by June 12. The SC Commission has also issued a notice to the Chief Secretary, DGP and DIG Border Range that by June 12, the action report in the Kataruchak video case should be submitted to the Commission.
According to information, the NCSC ordered the Punjab government to record the victim’s statement through video conference or in Delhi and provide immediate security. The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) on the orders of Chairman Vijay Sampla has issued a third notice to the officials of the Punjab government in the case of allegations of sexual harassment leveled against Lal Chand Kataruchak, cabinet minister of the Punjab government. The reason for sending the third notice is that the state government has failed to submit the action report despite two prior notices.
The commission says that the notice was issued twice but despite this no action was taken by the government. The SC Commission had ordered that the victim’s statement be recorded in Delhi through video conferencing and security should be provided.
Before this, the commission issued two notices to the Punjab government. The first notice was issued on May 5 and the second notice was issued on May 25.
Taking strict notice of the complaint of Keshav Kumar who accused Punjab Cabinet Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak of sexual harassment, the commission issued a first notice to the officials of the Punjab government on May 5 to submit an immediate action report and the victim, who was Reportedly, the minister had asked to provide security to those who were receiving threatening phone calls.
After the notice, the state government constituted a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the matter on May 8, but no action report was submitted by the SIT to the Commission.
After this, the NCSC issued a second notice to the state government on May 25. Citing threats to the victim’s life, the NCSC asked officials and the police to record the victim’s statement through video conferencing or in person in Delhi, provide him with adequate security and submit a report by June 1.
Noting the Punjab government’s delay in providing justice and security to the victim, NCSC chairman Vijay Sampla said, “Despite sending repeated notices, no concrete action has been taken by the state government. This shows the lax and apathetic approach of the state government towards providing justice to the scheduled caste residents of the state. Now again the state government has been instructed to submit the action report by June 12. Along with this, the government has been instructed that
