Mangaluru (Karnataka): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday alleged that the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) believe in 17th century ruler Tipu Sultan and the two parties cannot do any good to Karnataka. At the same time, he praised the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying it was inspired by the 16th-century Tuluva queen Abbaka Chowta of Ullal, who ruled the state for prosperity.

Shah alleged that the Congress was involved in corruption and that the opposition party used Karnataka as an “ATM for the Gandhi family”. He told the public, “I ask you whether the people should vote for the JD(S) and the Congress, who have faith in Tipu, or for the BJP, who have faith in Rani Abbaka.”

The Union Home and Cooperation Minister was in Puttur in Dakshina Kannada district to participate in the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the ‘Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Co-operative Limited’ (Campco). Shah asked the people, “Who should form the next government in Karnataka?” BJP, which is a team of patriots under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, or the corrupt Congress, which used Karnataka as the ATM of the Gandhi family.

The BJP leader said that Congress and JD(S) cannot do any good to Karnataka. He claimed that “Karnataka prospered only when there was a BJP government”. Shah said, “Farmers across the country know former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa for his pro-farmer steps…The whole country knows Yeddyuppa because Bengaluru prospered under his leadership.” (agency)
