Ireland Extends Temporary Protection Validity Until March 4, 2024

Irish Department of Justice has announced that all residence permits granted for temporary protection will be automatically extended until March 4, 2024.

According to a press release, holders of such status donโ€™t have to apply for an extension and all future applicants that obtain residence permits on these grounds will be valid until March 4, 2024, SchegenVisaInfo.com reports.

Everyone that holds a temporary protection certificate or an Irish Residence Permit will have validity on their documents until March and their stay is legal even if they donโ€™t apply for such documents.

โ€œThe extension to temporary protection and any subsequent residence permit card is free of charge for beneficiaries of temporary protectionโ€ the press release reads.

The temporary protection status is granted usually to those that are seeking protection for various reasons related to safety or health, and currently, Ireland is offering protection to thousands of Ukrainians that are fleeing the warzone.

More than 67,000 people have reached Ireland from Ukraine since the Russian military that occurred on February 24, 2022. According to the Central Statistics Office (CSO), a total of 67,448 Personal Public Service Numbers were issued to Ukrainians in Ireland until December 11, with 13,619 of those further enrolling in education and training courses in the country and another 11,648 in English language courses.

CSO has further revealed that 87 per cent of arrivals from Ukraine showed activity in the countryโ€™s administrative data after September and women and men aged above 20 make up the majority of arrivals. More specifically, 46 per cent of all arrivals are women and another 20 per cent are men while the age group of minors until 19 years old represent 34 per cent of all arrivals.

English language proficiency was a challenge in getting employed for 69 per cent of 16,785 that showed interest in employment support events. On the other hand, a total of 14,674 out of 24,164 people that attended employment events recorded previous occupations, with professionals representing the largest group of 32 per cent.

Out of 19,103 persons where the highest level of education was recorded, 65 per cent achieved an NFQ level equalled seven or higher.

As per areas, the Irish examiner reports that Midleton has received the highest number of Ukrainians โ€“ 1,263 people in total, while Ennistymon in Clare received the most arrivals in the country โ€“ 1,705.

The majority of Ukrainians are accommodated in private accommodations (7,999) while 3,820 hosts are receiving accommodation recognition payment for sheltering people from Ukraine.
