IPD services started at Homi Bhaba Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, 'Health Check on Wheels' scheme launched

Homi Bhaba Cancer Hospital and Research Centre: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said on Thursday that the state government will soon start mobile vans in villages across the state to identify cancer patients at the initial stage of the disease.

Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the IPD services at the Homi Bhaba Memorial Cancer Hospital, the Chief Minister said that effectively tackling the terminal and deadly disease of cancer is the prime need of the hour. He expressed the hope that these vehicles will prove helpful in early detection of cancer, thereby saving many precious lives in the state.

Bhagwant Mann said that although people feel a little hesitant and afraid to get tested for this dangerous disease, the state government is committed to ensure the testing of cancer disease in Punjab. He also expressed concern over the increasing number of Hepatitis-C patients in the state. He said that these vans will also help in ensuring diagnosis and treatment of patients suffering from this disease. Bhagwant Mann said that this ‘Health Check on Wheels’ scheme will help in creating a healthy and progressive Punjab.

Also, CM Mann said that the state has already made all preparations to ensure the prevention of cancer. He said that early diagnosis of this disease is the only way to effectively deal with this dangerous disease. Bhagwant Mann said that these vans can play a decisive role for this work.

The Chief Minister said that earlier patients used to go to other states by train for cancer express treatment, but now with the advent of major infrastructure in cancer treatment centers, this trend is changing. He said that more such state-of-the-art medical facilities will be brought in the state with the aim of ensuring quality medical treatment to the people. Bhagwant Mann said that the state government is going to set up 16 new medical colleges across Punjab with the aim of ensuring quality medical treatment to the people in the state.

He said that the state will soon emerge as the center of medical education in the country. He said that these colleges will provide quality medical education to the students and also ensure good diagnostic and treatment facilities for the people. Bhagwant Mann said that gone were the days when students of the state had to go to countries like Ukraine for medical education as Punjab would soon provide them quality education in the state.

During the address, Bhagwant Mann said that this will help in stopping the brain drain and it will ensure that the top level doctors of the state work in the state. He said that Punjab is a symbol of quality in education, training and other fields. Bhagwant Mann said that the day is not far when the state will become a beacon for other states in medical education.

Appreciating the Tata Group for its exemplary service to humanity, the Chief Minister said that Tata is a symbol of dedication and for this quality it is known worldwide. He said that Tata Memorial Hospital at Sangrur and New Chandigarh is providing world class facilities to the patients, which is a boon for the state. Bhagwant Mann expressed hope that Dr. RA Barve will make his special contribution in providing better and quality health services and treating patients in the country.

Speaking further, he said that the state government has focused on rooting out the problem of cancer in the state. He said that the state government has given 42 crore rupees for the cancer hospital in Sangrur and there is no dearth of funds for this noble cause. Bhagwant Mann further said that all possible efforts will be made to deal with this deadly disease in a more effective manner.

Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated the IPD services at the hospital and interacted with the patients admitted on the fourth floor. He said that OPD last year. was operationalized and this institute with a capacity of 300 beds has emerged as a hub for cancer treatment. Bhagwant Mann said that under the commitment of the Punjab government to eradicate cancer from the state, the Punjab government has given its 52 acres of land to the hospital free of charge.

The Chief Minister said that the state government contributes Rs 2 crore annually as a grant for the maintenance of the hospital. He said that this is a historic day as three MoUs have been signed by the state government with the Tata Memorial Centre. Bhagwant Mann said that the first MoU has been signed between the Health Department and Tata Memorial Hospital so that TMC Health care facilities across the state can be strengthened by training government hospital staff.

Similarly, the Chief Minister said that Radiology, Lab Technology, O.T. And another MoU has been signed with Department of Technical Education and Industrial Training for short term practical training in various other courses. He said that this would help build a pool of skilled staff in the state to deal with cancer effectively.

Director of TMC Mumbai Dr. R.A. Barve emphasized on providing uniform services in all cancer treatment institutes across the country to provide quality cancer treatment. Gave information about the activities of Head of Radiology Department Dr. Rahat Brar welcomed and thanked all dignitaries.

The Chief Minister also released a book on the Tata Memorial. On this occasion, Cabinet Minister Dr. Balbir Singh, Harjot Bains and Anmol Gagan Mann and Additional Chief Secretary to Chief Minister A Venu Prasad and others were present.
