Introduction of State Intelligence and Preventive Unit and GST Prime in the state

State Intelligence and Preventive Unit: Punjab Finance, Planning, Program Implementation, Excise and Taxation Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema on State Intelligence and Preventive Unit (SIPU) GST Prime for State GST Officers to analyze and monitor tax collection and compliance within their jurisdiction. An analytical portal was launched.

Addressing a special event held in this regard, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that besides converting the existing 7 mobile wings of the Tax Department at Amritsar, Bathinda, Fazilka, Shambhu (Patiala), Ludhiana and Jalandhar into State Intelligence and Preventive Units, 3 New SIPUs have been set up. He said that the newly established SIPU will have central units at Madhopur (Pathankot), Mohali and Head Office, Patiala.

Harpal Cheema said that the central unit and SIPU will work in direct coordination with the Tax Intelligence Unit, Patiala. Disclosing the key features of GST Prime, the Finance Minister said that this portal will result in better tax monitoring by tax authorities and also increase tax compliance by taxpayers. He said that this system will meet the needs of regional level offices and enforcement and intelligence offices to identify defaulters and tax evaders.

Punjab Minister Cheema said that this portal acts as a bridge between GST Common Portal and e-way bill systems and tax administration. The finance minister added that these initiatives of the tax department are aimed at effective tax compliance, identification of top defaulters, easy record keeping of taxpayer details and identification of taxpayers for audit and inspection to detect fraud.

On this occasion, besides others, Finance Commissioner Kar Vikas Pratap, Commissioner Kamal Kishore Yadav, Additional Commissioner-1 Viraj S. Tidke and Additional Commissioner Audit Ravneet Khurana were also present.
