Indian-American Neil Mohan has taken over the reins of YouTube on Thursday. Mohan’s promotion as chief executive officer (CEO) of YouTube comes after one of the first Google employees, Susan Wojcicki, decided to step down from her role at the tech giant that started in her garage 25 years ago. Wojcicki, 54 Said that the reason for resigning is that she will now focus on “family, health and personal matters”. She was previously Senior Vice President of Advertising Products at Google and became the CEO of YouTube in 2014. Mohan is believed to have come to Google during the DoubleClick acquisition in 2007 and later became senior vice president of display and video ads. He became the Chief Product Officer of YouTube in 2015. Mohan was considered the natural successor to Wojcicki.

Neil Mohan became part of YouTube’s parent company Google in 2008. He is a Stanford graduate. Prior to becoming YouTube’s CEO, he served as the company’s chief product officer. Previously, Mohan has also worked with Microsoft and sits on the boards of Stitch Fix and genomics and biotechnology company 23andMe. Mohan and Wojcicki have worked together for nearly 15 years. He came to Google during the DoubleClick acquisition in 2007 and later became senior vice president of display and video ads. He became the Chief Product Officer of YouTube in 2015.
