It may not be easy to recover from the defeat in the final of the World Cup 2023, but Team India has tried to reduce that disappointment to some extent by winning the first match of the T20 series against Australia. India got off to a strong start by defeating Australia by 2 wickets in the first match of the 5-match T20 series in Visakhapatnam. Suryakumar Yadav, who is captaining Team India for the first time, left behind the flop show of the World Cup and presented his explosive style in T20, on the basis of which India chased a big score of 209 runs.

4 days ago, the final of World Cup 2023 was played between India and Australia in Ahmedabad, where Team India had to face defeat. Now immediately both the teams clashed in a different format and hence Visakhapatnam stadium was also full house. However, most of the senior players of both the teams were rested. Surya, Steve Smith, Josh English were the only players who fielded in this match after the final.

Attack of the English

Steve Smith and Short got off to a strong start and scored 30 runs in 4 overs but short (13) was bowled by leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi in the 5th over. Josh Inglis, who came after this, made the Indian bowlers suffer. English scored 19 runs including 3 fours and 1 six off Prasidh Krishna in the 8th over. Then in the 12th over also against Bishnoi, he completed his first half-century by hitting 2 sixes and 1 four. In the 15th over, English again targeted Bishnoi and scored 21 runs by hitting 3 sixes.

On the other hand, Steve Smith (52) also completed his half century. Although Smith was dismissed on the very next ball, the English attack continued and he completed his century in just 47 balls with the help of 3 consecutive fours off Arshdeep’s over. This is the fastest century for Australia in T20Is. Inglis (110 runs, 50 balls, 11 fours, 8 sixes) was dismissed in the 18th over, after which Tim David (19) took the team to 208 runs. Mukesh Kumar’s 20th over proved crucial, yielding only 5 runs.

Surya-Ishan

However, India got off to a poor start and in the very first over, there was a misunderstanding between openers Rituraj Gaikwad and Yashshwi Jaiswal over the second run, due to which Gaikwad was run out without playing a ball. Jaiswal (21 runs, 8 balls) hit 2 fours in the third over but was promptly dismissed by Mathew Short. From here, captain Surya along with Ishan Kishan not only managed the innings but also counter-attacked. After a slow start, Ishan’s bat flourished and he completed his half-century in 37 balls.

Ishan (58 runs, 39 balls) however got out on the next two balls. He shared a partnership of 112 runs with captain Surya. However, Surya’s attack continued and he completed his half-century in just 29 balls. Tilak Verma’s bat didn’t even work and he fell victim to Tanveer Sangha in the 15th over. From here Surya and Rinku brought the team closer to victory.

Rinku won

However, Surya (80 runs, 42 balls, 9 fours, 4 sixes) got out 15 runs short of the target. This is where the drama started in the match. 7 runs were required in the last over and 5 runs were scored in the first 2 balls. Then 3 wickets fell on the next 3 balls. 1 run needed off the last ball and Rinku (22 not out, 14 balls) hits a six. However, it was a no ball and India won without counting sixes.
