Team India has registered a thrilling victory in their last series just before the T20 World Cup 2024. In the last match of the series played in Bangalore, a double super over took place, where team India defeated Afghanistan by 10 runs in the second super over. Team India achieved success on the strength of captain Rohit Sharma's world record 5th century and then the explosive batting in both the Super Overs. In the second super over, Ravi Bishnoi took 2 wickets in just 3 balls for Afghanistan and gave the team a historic success. In this way, Team India defeated Afghanistan 3-0. Team India has made a clean sweep in the T20 series for a record 9th time, which is the most.

It has always been raining runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. This has often been seen in the IPL and one such scenario was witnessed on the evening of Wednesday 17th January. Both the teams displayed excellent batting and some poor bowling but the match was absolutely worth it for the visitors. Scored more than 400 runs in the entire 40 overs, which was not enough to decide the match. After which, for the first time in the history of international cricket, 2 super overs were played in the same match, in which India won.

Rohit's brilliant century, Rinku also blasted

In the first two matches where captain Rohit Sharma had decided to bowl first, this time he has decided to challenge his bowlers by batting first. However, the challenge backfired as Team India lost 4 wickets for just 22 runs. In this, Virat Kohli and Sanju Samson got out on 'Golden Duck' (out for 0 on the first ball). Rohit Sharma was seen struggling a lot in the beginning but along with Rinku Singh he took charge.

After ticking once, both of them rained fours and sixes. Meanwhile, Rohit completed his world record 5th century by hitting a boundary in the 19th over. He left behind Suryakumar Yadav and Glenn Maxwell (both 4-4). Rohit completed this century in 64 balls. Rinku Singh also scored his half century. The two put on an unbeaten partnership of 190 runs off just 95 balls and took Team India to 212 runs. Both added 103 runs in the last 5 overs, of which 36 runs came in the 20th over only.

Gulbadin tied the match

Rahmanullah Gurbaz and captain Ibrahim Zadran scored strong half-centuries to give Afghanistan a strong start, but both failed to score runs at the required pace. Both shared a partnership of 93 runs for the first wicket. However, from here Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav soon returned for Team India by taking 3 wickets. Sundar took the wickets of Zadran and Azmatullah Umarzai on successive deliveries.

However, from the other side, Gulbadin Naib was holding the lead and he got good support from Mohammad Nabi. Both of them batted brilliantly and put pressure on India by putting on a partnership of 56 runs off just 22 balls. Even after this, India dominated and Afghanistan needed 19 runs in the last over. Mukesh Kumar came to bowl in this over and Sharfuddin Ashraf scored 18 runs along with Gulbadin to level the match.

First double super over

After this the match went into super over where Afghanistan scored 16 runs while batting first. Captain Rohit Sharma and Yashaswi Jaiswal came to bat for Team India but Team India could score only 16 runs and thus Super Over was tied. For the first time in international cricket, a double super over was witnessed in a single match. This time India batted first. Captain Rohit Sharma scored 11 runs in the first 3 balls but India lost 2 wickets in the next 2 balls. Thus, Afghanistan got a target of 12 runs. Ravi Bishnoi came from India in this Super Over and he restricted Afghanistan to just 1 run. Bishnoi took 2 wickets off 3 balls and led the team to victory by 10 runs.
