India’s legendary spinner Bishan Singh Bedi has passed away. Bedi was 77 years old. Bishan Singh Bedi was also the former captain of the Indian cricket team and took more than 250 Test wickets. Bedi played 67 Tests and 10 ODIs for India in 12 years between 1966 and 1979. Meanwhile, he also captained India in many matches.

Bishan Singh Bedi, known for his simple yet elegant action and flight, was for a long time the highest Test wicket-taker for India. He made his Test debut on 31 December 1966 against the West Indies at Eden Gardens, Kolkata and played his last Test against England in 1979. Meanwhile, he took 266 wickets in 67 Test matches for India.
Under the leadership of legendary captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, Bedi along with Irapalli Prasanna, Bhagwad Chandrasekhar and S Venkataraghavan formed the spin quartet which gradually gave India success on the cricket field against the likes of England, West Indies and Australia. After Pataudi, in 1976 he was made the captain of the team. He captained India in 22 matches. It was under his leadership that India drew the Port of Spain Test during the tour of the West Indies, which upset the West Indies team. After this, the West Indies fast bowlers targeted the Indian batsmen in Kingston and sent 5 batsmen to the hospital, after which Bedi got angry and declared the second innings at just 97 runs.
