The Corona epidemic that has killed millions of people around the world has once again raised concerns in India. At least 26 to 27 people are getting infected every hour in this country, which has the second largest population in the world, which has once again created an atmosphere of fear. According to the Ministry of Health, 640 new cases of Covid-19 were registered within 24 hours on Friday (December 22).

Due to this, the number of active patients across the country has increased to 2,997. While the number was 2,669 a day earlier. The biggest concern is due to the new variant of Corona JN.1. The increase in patients is thought to be due to JN.1, a descendant of the omicron form of Covid.

Its first sample was taken on 25 August 2023. A patient infected with a new sub-variant of Corona has been detected in Kerala. However, it is yet to be confirmed in other parts of the country. “The current increase in reporting of Covid-19 cases is mostly due to the JN1 sub-variant of the Omicron variant,” said Harshal R Salve, Additional Professor, Center for Community Medicine, Delhi.

The cause of Omicron is reported to be similar to previously reported cases. Reported symptoms are mostly limited to upper respiratory tract infections, and no serious symptoms have been reported so far.
