Honda to Increase Production of Two-Wheelers in India, Export will be expanded to 58 Countries

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter (HMSI), one of the largest two-wheeler companies, plans to increase the production capacity of its plant by six lakh units. The company’s plant is located in Vithalapur, Gujarat. Due to increase in export demand, the company needs to increase production. Honda exports its two-wheelers to 38 countries. There are plans to increase this to 58 countries in the next financial year.

Honda said that it has increased its presence in the Oceania region with exports to Australia and New Zealand. Apart from this, the company is also exporting powertrains from its plant. The company exports 18 models and will increase it to 20 models by the end of the next financial year. Honda Will emphasize on petrol-powered two-wheelers. Earlier, the company has set a target of achieving 15 per cent of its sales from Electric Vehicles (EV) by 2030. All the two-wheelers of the company will be ready to be OBD2 and E20 compliant by September this year.

The company has also made preparations to bring flex fuel technology in the country. It plans to launch a flex fuel two-wheeler. Sales of electric scooters are increasing rapidly and due to this Honda is preparing to launch some models in this segment. Recently, the company’s Managing Director, Atsushi Ogata had told that Honda will create charging infrastructure to help plan its electric vehicles in the country.

He had said, “We are planning to launch the first electric scooter in March next year. It is being developed on a new platform and will be made according to the needs of the Indian market.” He said that the company’s first electric scooter will have a fixed battery, while the second model will be launched with replaceable battery technology. The company plans to use its 6,000 outlets across the country EV for charging infrastructure.
