Cabinet Minister Aman Arora while inaugurating the project at Sunam Grid at Namol Road said that the campaign to encourage farmers to use canal water for agriculture is going on with vigor across Punjab.

He said that a project costing Rs 68 crore to replace 192 moghas of raw ditches under Sunam’s Kotla branch with underground pipelines or fixed ditches will be implemented through the Punjab Water Resources Management and Development Corporation and 85 at a cost of Rs 30 crore as the first phase. The work of laying underground pipeline in Moghya has been started.

The Cabinet Minister said that under this project, around 26,500 hectares of land will be provided with better irrigation facilities by constructing an estimated 400 km of underground pipelines or permanent canals. He said that this project is running with the support of Punjab Government and Government of India and the duration is till 31-03-2025.

Aman Arora said that the rate at which the ground water level is going down every year is a matter of great concern and therefore this project will be very useful for making more use of canal water. Arora said that by laying the underground pipeline, along with the saving of arable land, the farmer will also earn about Rs 4000 per acre of crop annually.

He said that earlier under this project farmers were given 90% subsidy and asked to deposit only 10% share, but after the important decision of the Punjab government under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Bhagwant Mann, no share has been taken from the farmers. Going and hundred percent amount will be given by the government itself.

Aman Arora also said that the farmers should take advantage of this campaign of the government. He said that according to the instructions of the Minister of Water Resources of Punjab Mr. Gurmeet Singh Meet Hair, the officials of the relevant departments across Punjab are conducting cluster level awareness camps in the villages so that as many farmers as possible can learn about the use of canal water and use it as a precious resource of nature. Contribute to water conservation.
