Gurbani Broadcast Proposal in Punjab Cabinet Meeting: Punjab Cabinet meeting was held in Chandigarh. After the meeting, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann held a press conference. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister clarified the situation regarding Gurbani. The Chief Minister said that we are not amending the Gurdwara Act. will fix the appropriate conditions for the transmission of Gurbani.

He said that Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) was formed under the Sikh Gurdwara Act-1925. But there is no mention of broadcasting or live telecast in Gurdwara Act-1925. This committee is occupied by only one family. After this, it was thought to cash the sentiments of the Sikh community on the basis of religion by opening a television channel.

Accordingly, in 2012, the rights to broadcast Gurbani were purchased from Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib for 11 years. Due to which people were forced to install special channels related to Gurbani.

During the press conference, CM Mann said that neither he is amending the Gurdwara Act, nor is he giving broadcasting rights to any government party, nor is any of his relatives giving the channel to them. He said that they are entitled to give open opportunities for the promotion of Gurbani. Taking the name of a particular channel where it does not run, people cannot listen to Gurbani. He questioned that what is the objection to that special channel, when earlier Gurbani was broadcast by tender or payment, now this facility will be available for free.

Along with this, the Punjab Chief Minister said that no commercial advertisement will be allowed to run half an hour before and half an hour after the broadcast of Gurbani. We will make sure of it. Mann reiterated that the transmission of Gurbani from Sri Harmandir Sahib should be free for all. No organization will get broadcasting rights. On the opposition of the Shiromani Committee, the Chief Minister said that the Sikh Gurdwara Act 1925 comes under the jurisdiction of the state.

Bhagwant Mann said that the agreement with Badal’s channel is ending in July 2023, but if the Punjab government does not make changes even now, the Gurbani broadcast will be re-mortgaged for 11 years. He said that the time has come to free Gurbani from modern masands in the same way as Gurdwaras were freed from masands. Talks have also been held with big lawyers for this.

CM Bhagwant Mann said that when the Gurdwara Management Committee was being formed in Haryana, the orders of the Supreme Court should be explained. Meanwhile, the SGPC of Punjab, referring to the Inter-State Act, said that it cannot be a state government, but it can be formed by them. But this is not an inter-state act, it has been declared a state act by the Supreme Court. It was said that Haryana can make its own, Delhi can make its own and Punjab can make its own.
