Gunfight between police and smugglers in Amritsar

There was a shootout between police and smugglers late at night in Amritsar, Punjab. While chasing, the Amritsar police raided and stopped the vehicle of the accused. During the search, illegal weapons and heroin worth about Rs 7 crore have been recovered from the smuggler. The police have registered a case against the accused in the Chatiwind police station and started the action.

According to the information received, the Amritsar Special Cell received information that smuggler Gurlal Singh son of Santokh Singh resident of Dhanoi Khurd is coming from Tarn Taran to Amritsar with illegal weapons and drugs in his new Thar car (No. A/F). A barricade was set up at T Point Sukhewal on behalf of the local police.

When the accused reached the gate, he was signaled to stop the car. But he opened fire on the police party and broke through the fort and fled towards Amritsar. Several shots were fired between the police and the smugglers. Three bullets hit the police station. Near Best Price in Manawala, the police succeeded in controlling the smuggler’s gang.

The police have taken the smuggler into custody and started interrogation. During the search, the police recovered a China made pistol of .30 bore and 5 live cartridges from the smuggler. Apart from this, one kg of heroin was recovered from the accused, the international value of which is said to be around Rs 7 crore.

An FIR has been registered under Section 307,353,186 IPC 25(2), 54, 59, Arms Act 21, 61, 85 NDPS Act in Amritsar’s Chattiwind police station.
