Indian stock markets made a strong comeback today after the fall of the last two days. Both the Sensex and the Nifty closed on the green mark today. The Sensex broke its 5-day losing streak in today’s trade and closed 79 points higher. Whereas Nifty closed around 17 thousand. BPCL saw a gain of 6% in today’s trade. At the same time, the share of Patanjali Foods fell by 2%.

Earlier, the market started with a decline and both the major indices opened with a decline. Talking about the big stocks today, Titan, Hindustan Uni Lever, Axis Bank, Nestle, ITC, Tech Mahindra saw a boom. Whereas Maruti, L&T, Reliance, Wipro, TCS and Tata Steel closed with losses.

In the previous trading session, the 30-share Sensex closed at 57,555.90, down 344.29 points, or 0.59 per cent, on Wednesday. Similarly, the NSE Nifty closed at 16,972.15, down 71.15 points, or 0.42 per cent. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 1,271.25 crore on Wednesday, according to stock market data.

Rupee falls 10 paise to 82.75

The rupee depreciated 10 paise to Rs 82.75 against the dollar in early trade on Thursday. At the Interbank forex market, the rupee opened weak at 82.77 against the dollar and then traded in the range of 82.80 to 82.71. Later, the rupee settled at 82.75, down 10 paise over its previous close. The rupee had closed at 82.65 against the US dollar on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the US dollar’s position against a basket of six major currencies, declined 0.10 per cent to 104.54.
