Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit has reserved 3 bills of the Punjab government. Now the Governor will send these 3 bills to the President for consideration as per Article-200 of the Constitution. The bills which have been reserved by the Governor include Punjab Universities Laws (Amendment) Bill-2023, Sikh Gurdwaras (Amendment) Bill-2023 and Punjab Police (Amendment) Bill-2023.

This has come to light a week after the Governor's letter to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. In this letter, the Governor had assured the Chief Minister that he would re-examine the Bills based on merits as well as various clauses of the Constitution of India. The Governor had said in the letter that he would give his decision on each bill separately in the coming days.

It is to be noted that these three bills were passed in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha and these three bills were the subject of controversy between the Governor and the Punjab government. It should also be mentioned that the Punjab government had knocked the door of the Supreme Court against Governor Purohit in October. The Supreme Court also reprimanded the governor for not approving the bills passed by the elected government, after which these three bills have now been kept in reserve by the governor.
