Gopalganj: If you are in Gopalganj district and are fond of food, then Pidkia can prove to be a delicious dessert for you. Although Pidkia is a famous sweet of Gopalganj, but it is also known as the main Prasad of Thave Durga Temple. Whenever people come to Thawe Durga temple for worship, they do not forget to taste Pidkia. Let us tell you that Pidkiya made of pure ghee and khova came to Gopalganj from Siwan. Now this Pidkiya has become the identity of Gopalganj. Most of the purchases of Pidkia are made by the devotees who come to Thawe.

Gauri Shankar Sah, son of Lakshmi Sah of Narendrapur village of Jiradei police station of Siwan district, started making and selling pidkia here. After the death of his father, Gauri Shankar Sah along with his four brothers started living at his maternal uncle’s house in the foreign Tola village of Thave. Staying at his maternal uncle Bunilal Sah’s place, he started doing the business of pidkia. He used to go to fairs and villages and sell pidkias. Along with this, Thave also used to run a sweet shop near the station. The situation is that you will find dozens of shops named after them. It is prepared by adding ghee to flour. Then it is rolled like roti and khoya is filled in it. After this, it is prepared in the shape of pidkia and fried in ghee. After that this fried sweet is dipped in sugar syrup. Then it is served to eat.

Shopkeepers Deenbandhu Prasad, Dhanji Prasad, famous Kumar and other shopkeepers told that Pidkiya is made by adding pure ghee and khova. About 25 kg of pidkia are sold daily from one shop. Its sale is more than 50 kg on Monday and Friday. Its sale reaches up to one quintal daily in Chaitra and Sharadiya Navratras. Pidkia is made daily in all the shops of Gaurishankar Shah. Here people get fresh pidkia. People like to buy it after seeing it being made in front of them. Cleanliness is also taken care of in the shops.

From officers to common people are crazy about girls
The fame of Pidkiya sweets of Gopalganj has spread far and wide. This is the reason why the common people or the officers do not forget to take pidkia with them when they come to Gopalganj. On the other hand, officials from Varanasi Railway Division to other zones who reach Thawe Junction during the inspection definitely buy pidkia. Also take it home. A pidkia stall is also being set up at Thave Junction under One Station-One Product. That is, soon passengers will be able to buy pidkia at Thave Junction. Suresh Pandey, the head priest of Thave temple, told that shops of pidkia have been opened in Thave Durga temple premises as well. Devotees who visit the mother buy famous pidkias and take them away. Devotees coming from not only the district but from far off places definitely buy pidkias after worshiping the mother.
