Bureau Report: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested a former member of the Minority Commission and his PA on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 10,49,500. Lal Hussain, a former member of the Minorities Commission and his PA Mohammad Mehrban are also among the accused. Accused Lal Hussain remained a member of the Minorities Commission from February 2020 to February 2023.

Vigilance officials said that an online complaint was lodged against the accused on the CM Anti-Corruption Action Helpline, the matter was lodged by Sandeep Kumar of village Chananwala in Fazilka. He had told in his complaint that the accused had lured his brother-in-law and brother-in-law along with his friend to get a constable job under the direct quota of Wafat Board or DGP Punjab. The accused had demanded Rs 7 lakh for one person.

Accused caught due to recording on mobile phone

According to the complainant Sandeep Kumar, the accused has taken Rs 10,49,500 from him in three installments. Sandeep Kumar has given the record of phone conversation with the accused Meherban to Vigilance as a complaint. Vigilance has registered a case under various sections of corruption against the accused in Vigilance police station located in Mohali on the confession of demanding bribe and receiving the amount on the investigation of the complaint. The investigation team can produce the accused in the court for further questioning and seek his remand.
