Parkash Singh Badal was the president of Shiromani Akali Dal from 1995 to 2008. He was elected to the Punjab Vidhan Sabha a record 10 times. In 1972 and 1980 and 2002, he was also the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly. In 1957, Parkash Singh Badal reached the Vidhan Sabha for the first time on a Congress ticket, in 1969 he won the election again and took charge of the Ministry of Panchayat Raj, Animal Husbandry and Dairy.
