Chandigarh: The water released from the dams of Punjab is wreaking havoc in Ferozepur-Fazilka, two districts of the state. Around 74 villages and several BSF posts in both the districts are under the flood. Due to the release of 2 lakh 82 thousand 875 cusecs of water from Hussainiwala on Saturday, there is a possibility of heavy destruction in these border villages during the next 48 hours. All the three dams have released 57509 cusecs of water from Bhakra, 20145 cusecs from RSD and 78354 cusecs from Pong.

On the other hand, the situation in 24 villages of Fazilka is bad. People have started migrating from many villages. 4 teams of NDRF have been called. More than 50 border villages in Ferozepur were inundated by flood water. The Hussainiwala Martyrdom Memorial was submerged in water. In Ferozepur, 7 more flood-affected schools have declared holiday up to 27. The Punjab government is on high alert. The government has ordered the DCs of all districts to keep an eye on the low-lying areas.

Three BSF outposts have been submerged in Ferozepur. Out of these Post Tent Wala, Old Ghajni Wala and Chowki Joginder Singh have been completely submerged in water. The Martyrdom Memorial located on the Hussainiwala border has also come under the flood. The tomb of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh’s mother has been completely submerged in water.

Earlier on Friday, the pilgrimage post was submerged in water. 50 jawans were taken out safely from here. The barbed wire has collapsed at many places in the border area. In village Rajoke Gatti, the villagers tied the tubes of the vehicles to the bed and took their families to a safe place. About four to five feet of water has filled their houses. Many villagers’ cattle have drifted towards Pakistan.

Water entered the villages on the banks of Sutlej

On the other hand, water has entered many villages on the banks of Sutlej in Rupnagar district. Village Taraf Majari, Shiv Singh Bela, Bela Dhyani, Harsa Bela, village Bhanam has lost contact with Anandpur Sahib.
