Seven German airports โ€“ Frankfurt, Munich, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Dortmund, Hanover, and Bremen airports โ€“ will face massive disruptions tomorrow, February 17, as the airport staff plans to go on a 24-hours strike.

The German trade union Verdi called on all workers of the airports mentioned above to go on strike as, according to them, the relevant authorities have made little to no efforts to improve their working conditions and increase their wages, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

According to Verdi, the strike will begin in the early hours of Friday morning and will end on Friday night. The same stressed that the strike is expected to affect domestic travel particularly, and for this reason, the trade union gave an advance warning, so all passengers find alternatives.

Reuters explains that the union is currently negotiating for three groups of workers โ€“ public sector officials, ground service staff, and aviation security workers. Commenting on the situation, Christine Behle, a Verdi board member, said there is still a damaging shortage of workers in ground workers and stressed that this was felt by travellers last summer.

Of all airports, the staff of which have decided to go on strike tomorrow, it has been noted that Frankfurt will be most affected as it is the countryโ€™s largest airport. Frankfurt airport said that operations would be heavily disrupted tomorrow and advised everyone against travelling to the airport.

โ€œDue to a strike by Germanyโ€™s VER.DI union, operations at Frankfurt Airport will be heavily disrupted throughout the day on February 17. Passengers are strongly advised to refrain from travelling to the airport. Connecting flights from Frankfurt Airport will also be affected by the strike,โ€ Frankfurt airport wrote on its official Twitter account.

Munich airport, which is the second-largest airport in Germany, also said that there would not be regular flights on Friday. Since passengers who have already booked a flight will not be able to fly tomorrow, the airport has recommended that everyone checks their flight status with their airline.

โ€œDue to the Verdi strike, there will be no regular passenger flights from Friday, 17.02. in the period from 00:00 to Saturday 01:00. Please check with your airline about your flight status,โ€ Munich airport wrote.

The other airports that will be affected by the strike tomorrow also made similar announcements and advised everyone not to travel to the airports as flights will be disrupted.
