Australia became the T20 champions for the first time and defeated NZ by 8 wickets in the final. Playing first after losing the toss, New Zealand reached an all-time high of 172/4 in the World Cup final.
The 173-run target was easily achieved by Finch & Company at a loss of 2 wickets in 18.5 overs. David Warner (53) and Mitchell Marsh (77) scored in the victory. Australia have won the World Twenty20 for the first time in 14 years.

Australia did not start well and in the third over Trent Bold took the wicket of Aaron Finch (5). David Warner and Mitchell Marsh then added 92 off 59 balls to put the team in a strong position. Bold broke the partnership by dismissing Warner (53). For the third wicket, Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Marsh added 66 off 39 balls to lead Australia to the title.
