Washington: National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held the first high-level meeting of the ‘Initiative for Critical and Emerging Technologies’ (ICET) here with his American counterpart Jake Sullivan. NSA Ajit Doval and Jake Sullivan formally launched the US-India Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies. US Deputy Secretary of Defense Dr. Kathleen Hicks met National Security Advisor Ajit Doval here to discuss the US-India bilateral defense partnership.
“We will promote an open, accessible and secure technology ecosystem based on mutual trust and confidence,” the White House said in a fact sheet after the conclusion of the first ICET meeting between Doval and Sullivan on Tuesday. A statement issued by the Indian Embassy in the USA said that NSA Ajit Doval and Jake Sullivan formally launched the US-India Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies. The implementation arrangement was signed between the Department of Science-Technology of India and the National Science Foundation of USA in the presence of NSA Ajit Doval and Jake Sullivan.

ICET was mentioned in a joint statement for the first time after the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden in Tokyo in May 2022. Its purpose is to enhance and expand strategic technology partnerships and defense industrial cooperation between governments, businesses and academic institutions of the two countries.
