Finnish Airports Recorded 1.5 Million Passengers in January This Year

A total of 1.5 million passengers flew through Finnish airports in January this year, an increase of 78 per cent compared to the previous year, but still a quarter lower than in January 2019.

According to Statistics Finland, the number of passengers on domestic flights rose by 57 per cent, while international flights by 86 per cent compared to January of last year, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

The same source revealed that during the past month, a total of 1.1 million passengers flew through Helsinki Airport, and a total of 0.3 million passengers flew through other domestic airports.

Meanwhile, Helsinki Airport accounted for 77 per cent of all passengers at domestic airports.

As for the number of passengers at Helsinki Airport, it was 29 per cent lower. At the same time, the combined number of passengers at other domestic airports was 14 per cent lower than in January 2019.

Statistics Finland also shows that at airports such as Enontekiรถ, Kittilรค, Kuusamo and Rovaniemi, the number of passengers exceeded the level of 2019 in January 2023.

Compared to January of last year, the number of passengers at Helsinki Airport and other domestic airports was 80 per cent higher.

Based on these data, 73 per cent of air passengers travelled on international flights, while 27 per cent on domestic flights.

According to statistics, the share of passengers on international flights was 83 per cent at Helsinki airport and 42 per cent at other domestic airports.

During the past month, air transport of goods and mail reached 12,890 tons, 100 per cent of which were transported through Helsinki Airport. At the same time, 99 per cent were transported in traffic between Finland and foreign countries.ย  In total, 7,324 tons or 57 per cent of the transported volume of goods, were outgoing and 5,566 tons or 43 per cent, were incoming.

Previously, data provided by Statistics Finland revealed that last December, Finnish airports registered a total of 1.7 millionmarking an increase of 38 per cent compared to 2021.

During this period, the increase in the number of passengers on domestic flights was one-fifth and on international flights by 46 per cent in comparison to December of a year ago.

Moreover, in December 2022, a total of 1.2 million passengers flew through Helsinki Airport, while a total of 0.51 million passengers flew through other domestic airports in the country.
